This conference aims at helping the investor to better understand some of the Legal, Taxation and Banking challenges that they may encounter.



Mr. Vikram Nair – Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC

Vikram is a Member of Parliament for Sembawang Group Representative Constituency in Singapore and Vice-Chairman of the Sembawang Town Council.  He has been serving as an MP since 2011.  He is Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for India.

Vikram also practices as a lawyer and is qualified in both Singapore and English law and specializes in international arbitration and litigation.  He is a Partner at Rajah & Tann Singapore and Heads the India Desk. Vikram has previously worked as a management consultant in McKinsey and at other law firms.  As a student, Vikram was educated at Trinity College at Cambridge University and was Director of Debating at the Cambridge Union Society.


His Excellency Mr. Jawed Ashraf – High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Singapore

Mr. Jawed Ashraf joined as High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Singapore in November 2016. A career diplomat, High Commissioner Ashraf joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991. He served in Frankfurt and Berlin from 1993 to 1999. He worked in the Americas Division of Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 1999 to 2004. He completed a three-year tenure as Counsellor at the Embassy in Kathmandu in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Counsellor and Minister for Political Affairs in Washington DC and then headed the Americas Division in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 2010 to 2012.

High Commissioner Ashraf served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister‘s Office under former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and then Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. His portfolio included External Affairs, Defence, National Security Council, Atomic Energy and Space. He returned to Ministry of External Affairs in January 2016 and was Joint Secretary (Special Projects) until his appointment in Singapore.





Mr.Chandra Mohan Rethnam – Head Commercial Litigation

Chandra Mohan Rethnam has been a partner of Rajah & Tann for more than two decades with an active practice in commercial litigation. He also heads the private client practice group. The former lecturer at the NUS Faculty of Law is an active grassroots figure and was awarded the Public Service Star in 2015.

Mr.Amit Sinha – Managing Director – Global Head, Telecommunications Media & Technology and Offshore India Business

Amit is a Managing Director & Global Head of the Telecom, Media & Technology- Corporate & Investment Banking business since April 2011. Amit is also responsible for DBS Bank’s offshore India business and its business in the Middle East. He has been with DBS Bank for eighteen years with fifteen years in Singapore and three years in Dubai. He is responsible for TMT client origination and execution activities across various products including structured finance, debt capital markets, equity capital markets and M&A advisory and transaction banking.


Mr Tay Lian Chew – Group Director of the

North and South Asia Group

Mr Tay Lian Chew is the Group Director for North & South Asia Group in IE Singapore. As Group Director, Mr Tay oversees the promotion of trade and investment into Japan and Korea in North Asia region, and India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the South Asia region. Based in New Delhi, he has spearheaded many IE Singapore initiatives and strategies for the India market. In his current capacity, he works closely with companies from diverse sectors ranging from Lifestyle Business, Technology Business, and Transport Logistics to Infrastructure. Prior to the position, he was the Division Director of International Organisations Group in IE Singapore. He had worked closely with international organisations such as the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank and foreign governments to facilitate co-operation between these organisations and Singapore’s public and private sectors.

Some of the key initiatives that he has worked on include collaboration with ADB on project development and supporting the World Bank’s establishment in Singapore. He graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) in Economics from NUS in 1997. Prior to joining IE Singapore, he has also worked in Singapore’s Economic Development Board and an internet payment start-up company.


Mr.Allen J. Pathmarajah – Executive Chairman

Allen J. Pathmarajah is a Fellow – Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Marketing Institute of Singapore and Singapore Human Resources Institute. He is the Executive Chairman of AJP Advisers Group – Business Advisers focused on Organizational Transformation through Leadership Development, Strategic and Financial Management. He is the Adjunct Professor, School of Business at Singapore University of Social Sciences. He has extensive experience in Financial Services, Industry and Management Consultancy in England, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia.

He was with the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Group (“OCBC”). Initially as Executive Director of Specialists Services Pte Ltd and concurrently Special Assistant to the Group Chairman. Thereafter, he was with Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd as General Manager and subsequently as Managing Director. He was Adjunct Professor at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University. He is and was Chairman and Director of several public-listed and private companies in Singapore and overseas, He also is and was a member of several government, professional and charitable committees. He speaks on Leadership and various management topics to business and public sectors locally and internationally.
