About Singapore

The Republic of Singapore is today taking its place as one of the world's premier global city states, a country where talents from all around the world gather to share innovative ideas and start new businesses. One of Asia's most dynamic and stimulating cities the country actively encourages the fervent explorations of ideas to create new and exciting possibilities for a robust economy.

What few people realise is that Singapore is not just one island but a main island with 63 surrounding islets. Though it only has a land area of 704 sq km (252 sq miles), over the past 40 years the country has grown into a thriving centre of commerce and industry. Singaporeans can boast of one of the most stable societies in Asia, with its multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-lingual groups united in the common effort to keep Singapore a prosperous nation.

Set in a tropical paradise, Singapore is a garden city, which is also energised by a flourishing arts and entertainment scene amidst a vibrant landscape that is constantly transforming to the global beat. The stimulating flow of energy and harmony makes this city one of the finest to live, study, work and play

Lets not forget our colonial past which can be recaptured with a gin sling under the flashing ceiling fans at the Raffles Hotel. There are still many fine reminders of Singapore's ethnic and colonial past remaining, despite the island's relentless development.

With the past comes the present, in the form of the Esplanade, where you can enjoy world-class arts performances while the jet-set club to the latest music at the cosmopolitan clubs.
